The following is a list of initiatives offered by the Billings Metro VISTA Project.All of the following positions are a one-year commitment, beginning on July 25, 2016. A five-day On-Site Orientation Training will be held in Billings, Montana on July 25 through 29, 2016. Then the VISTA members will join their Host Sites to begin working on their projects! Food Security & Community Gardens
Anti-hunger efforts assisting low income families and individuals gain access to healthy food to enhance diets. Projects emphasize holistic, wrap-around services moving low income individuals on a path toward financial independence.
Child Education - K-12 Success, Mentoring & School Readiness
Projects that are designed to build capacity in order to maintain enrollment and support success in school. Projects may include teaching, tutoring, mentoring students, providing supportive services to teachers and school leaders, and expanding after school and learning programs.
Economic Opportunity: Jobs, Housing & Financial Literacy
Projects that are designed to further economic opportunity for low income households to access housing and to build assets. Projects may include creating access to emergency housing, transitional services, affordable housing, financial / budget education, income tax assistance, etc.
Access to Healthcare
Projects designed to increase access to preventative and / or health services for low income individuals and underserved populations to address significant healthcare problems including mental illness, obesity and health care for homeless individuals.
Veterans & Military Service Members
Efforts to meet the unmet needs of veterans, military service members and their families in accessing healthcare, creating economic opportunities, furthering education, and providing supportive services to promote well-being and self-sustainability.
