David Abrams, author of the acclaimed novel "Fobbit," will present "How to Tell a War Story," a Humanities Montana Speakers Bureau program. The free presentation is hoted by the YMCA Writer's Voice. Abrams, an Iraq War veteran who lives in Butte, will talk about turning his experience into fiction, and his presentation will include photos of his time serving with the 3rd Infantry Division in 2005 as well as short passages from "Fobbit," a comic novel that chronicles the public-relations team at a forward operating base in Iraq. Diaries kept by Abrams during his deployment formed the basis of his novel, which was hailed as "an instant classic" by Publishers Weekly and was a New York Times notable book. Partial funding for the program is provided by a legislative grant from Montana’s Cultural Trust and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
