  18. Bitter Pill Art Exhibit Opening Reception

    The United States Drug Enforcement Administration, the District of Montana U.S. Attorney’s Office, and the Montana Attorney General’s Office Resolve Montana initiative are proud to present Bitter Pill: Montana Lives Affected by Rx Abuse, an art exhibition that aims to express the human side of prescription drug abuse and recovery. Over thirty amateur and professional artists from across Montana submitted artwork that examines the state’s prescription drug abuse epidemic. Through their art and accompanying statements, the artists present the pain and struggles that prescription drug abuse can create. Some artists explore issues such as personal loss, lies told to mask ugly truths, and the effect prescription drug abuse has on the people around the abusers. Others explore the ability of support networks to provide help without judgment, the blessing of second chances, the ability to break the cycle of prescription drug abuse, and the healing of wounds on the path toward recovery

    Each child will sign up for one 15 minute time with a dog of their choice. Sign up happens on the day of the program. READ to a Dog program is a chance for children to read to a dog one on one. Sometimes, children may have a difficult time reading, and reading to a dog can bring a feeling of non-judgment, which makes reading a more relaxing and fun experience. With bringing the Intermountain Therapy dogs here, it creates that relaxed feeling in a safe and comfortable environment. READ to a Dog is an affiliate program of Reading Education Assistance Dogs® of Intermountain Therapy Animals of Salt Lake City, Utah. We thankfully recognize the Otto and Yvonne Mansfield Endowment at St. Vincent Healthcare Foundation for providing the funding for this program. The Mansfields had a great love of animals and would be very pleased to support READ. We would also like to thank the Billings Public Library Foundation for coordinating the efforts of making this gift possible.
