Babies who are read to from an early age become better readers as they grow and do better in school. Why not make sure that every baby born in Billings gets a free book? It began with this great idea. The Billings Junior Women’s Club took on the challenge, with additional support from Parmly Billings Library and the Friends of the Library. With assistance from Billings Clinic and St. Vincent’s Hospital, each newborn baby’s family now gets a book, a library card application, and information about the vital place of books and early literacy in a baby’s life. This month we celebrate the 10,000th baby to receive this important service.
