IDENTIFICATION SUPERVISOR
Police Department – Investigations Division/Identification Section

The Billings Police Department is seeking an experienced Identification Supervisor. Candidates must have three years of fingerprint experience and demonstrated expertise in the identification, collection, preservation, and examination of evidence using chemical and physical development procedures. This position requires the expert examination and classification of latent prints, and an examiner certification is preferred. This position will supervise the creation of photographic images of prints and crime scenes using various equipment and techniques, the use of image enhancement and security encryption software (current vendor is “Ocean Systems”), and the entry and archiving of photographic images as well as operation and understanding of automated fingerprint identification systems. Tests in relevant skills areas may be administered during the selection process.

The job of Identification Supervisor is a non-bargaining, non-exempt management position responsible for the supervision of Identification Technicians, Evidence Technicians, Crime Analyst and the Evidence Facility. Knowledge of supervisory principles, latent fingerprint principles and practices, basic criminal justice principles, applicable laws, rules and regulations, processing of crime scenes, and basic office principles are required.

Salary: $55,411 - $74,256 per year, plus a comprehensive benefit package

Minimum Qualifications:

Four-year degree in business, liberal arts, or general science program
Three years related work experience
Training in fingerprint comparison, identification, and recovery
Certified Latent Print Examiner preferred through the International Association for Identification
