Landfill
Size
The Billings Regional Landfill is the largest landfill in Montana. 250 of the 800 acre landfill are permitted to receive waste. The landfill receives over 225,000 tons of garbage per year from five counties:
- Yellowstone
- Treasure
- Musselshell
- Carbon
- Stillwater
|
 | Landfill Hours The landfill hours are 8:00 am to 5:30 pm seven days a week, except during the winter months of December, January and February when we are closed on Sunday.
Lifespan If the landfill continues to receive the same amount waste, it will be full in approximately 45 years. This can be greatly expanded if recyclables are diverted from the landfill.
Design The city is currently landfilling a 50-acre area of the permitted facility. This area is unlined and has less than a year of capacity remaining.
The next area to be landfilled is now being built. It will be lined with on-site clay soils and a synthetic liner to help prevent contaminates from reaching and potentially polluting groundwater.
